Cameron Ecology is a small ecological Consultancy run by Cameron MacIver. Cameron is an ecologist who has been in practice since 1999. Having trained as a botanist, in the early 2000’s he began working on onshore renewables projects, many of which were in upland environments, and he maintains a keen professional interest in upland habitats and upland ecology generally. In 2006 he began to be involved in the construction phase of these projects working as an Ecological Clerk of Works on a large windfarm near Glasgow; it was on these kinds of projects that the gap between commitments made at impact assessment stage and the reality of construction processes ‘on the ground’ first came to his attention. Though it is increasingly difficult, he strives to maintain an active professional involvement in all of the phases of the development process, from site selection, impact assessment work and other pre-construction elements, through construction and the monitoring of compliance, and on to post-construction monitoring. He passionately believes that experience from all of these elements should inform the much-needed raising of standards in all of these areas, and his involvement in a number of Associations and Institutes gives an opportunity to seek to contribute in these areas. As an ecologist his primary affiliation is with CIEEM. He is also involved in AEnvCOW, which seeks to improve compliance monitoring in particular, to achieve better outcomes through the development process for the environment in general and biodiversity in particular.
